Awards
We are very please to report that we have won a David BellamyBronze Award as 1 October 2011 for the Conservation, Wildlife and Eco Friendly work we have done on the site over the last 3 years ( 2009-2011)
Features such as water saving taps, reuse of water and the 5,000 Trees and Hedgerow plants we have planted helped
WCC Site Licence Its official we got our Caravan Site Licence from WCC ( Ref 201108PMN) following our application in July 2011.
New Shower Block We are working closely with Wiltshire Council planning officers Mr Charlie Bruce-White & Mr Stephen Hawkins and the local Southern Area planning committe to improve the quality of the sites facilities Thank you to all our supporters ( over 80 of you wrote in to WCC )
- great news we have won all 3 planning Appeals as of 11 July 2011 & also WON and got the Article 4 Direction squashed on 18 August 2011 for the 2nd time!. We now have full planning for 15 -115 Pitches!
The next job is to get planning for a fancy new shower block! William
We have full planning for 15 Pitches + 20 Overflow pitches during the Summer & 15 Pitches in Winter. A great result for common sense. See Salisbury Journal Article of 12 July. The ironic thing is we only applied for 25 pitches and have ended up with 35 Pitches - thanks to a small minority ( a hardcore of just 2-3 infact) of locals fighting us for the past 2 years. They have cost local taxpayers and us over £25,000 - what a waste!!
We have done loads of Landscaping in 2009, 2010 & 2011 (Now Completed for this season) We have planted 17 different hedges totalling 1000m+of new hedging & some 5,000 hedging plants, 150+ new trees have been planted, 600m of shelter belts and fencing and 250+ flowering shrubs.. We will have invested over £8,000+ on new planting and fencing to help make your stay special - so we hope you will be impressed and notice! See Photo Gallery
Thank You We would like to thank those pro Councilors for there help and support Councilors Hewitt & Divine & Britton( Particularly after the efforts of a small and very vocal local NIMBY pressure group led by Stephen Bush of Berwick St James ( The local Church Warden )who ran a prelonged negative campaign against the site and wanted the site closed!) Well he and they have lost - See Salisbury Journal article of 12 July 2011

1st Article 4 Direction was served by WCC on 11 February on the site. At the 21 March planning meeting prior to the end of the consultation period the Committee had voted 5:4 to confirm - however this was SQUASHED due to mal administration and incorrect procedure being followed on 4 April 2011. WCC accepted in writing that they had got it wrong and hat to start the whole process again
2nd Article 4 Direction 7 March 2011 was voted out 8:0 by the Southern Area Committee on 18 August 2011 ie SQUASHED
SOME REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT - Our Campsite
SOME FACTS
1 Small Minority So what was all the fuss about? Its was about a small minority of locals ( 2-3 key individuals - less than 1% of the community) who thought that all campers are rowdy, it will devalue there houses, will spoil the landscape, that we are damaging the Fauna & Flora and that there will be no economic benifit ( They were joking!) and that the landscaping will not screen the site - ever!
2 Landscaping The site has been open for over 2.5 years, many of the hedges are already 4-5 ft high and there have only been 4 complaints - this was down to one event on the 13 August 2010. So this is clearly now a non issue
3 Economic Benifit The site has already brought over £50,000+ of economic benifit into the area for local people and businesses. One example on one night only was "on 29 April 2011 Royal wedding I went to the local Boot Inn for a drink or two - there were 31 people eating and drinking that night and 16 of those people ( Over 50%) were from the campsite and they spent over £350+ on food and drink! " It is utterly silly to say that local business do not get major benifit or do not support the site - Please tell me which pubs, farm shop, taxi firms and local businesses do not want support in these difficult times?
4 Demand Some locals said there was no demand? We are now getting between 5 - 10 Pitches per night. Well if thats the case why do 150-180 people visit our website every day ( Up by 128% on 2011). With visits from over 78 Countries. Why do we have a 100 Tents booked in and a waiting list for the Solstice of over 25 groups. Of course this is yet another very silly suggestion and shows how un informed they are and how little they know.
5 Conclusion Common sense did prevail and a few small minded individuals will now have a lot more time to do good charitable work in the area and make sure the Lead dose not get stollen for the 3rd time off the Church roof!!
Note: for the one /two Locals who are still anti the Campsite. We now have FULL planning for every thing on our Campsite we have made our application to sign the conditions off. We have have been granted our Site Licence & have been Health & Safety inspected. We have won a David Bellamy Bronze Award and a Visit Wiltshire 2* Grading.
We will be making further planning applications to improve our WC Shower & Sewage treatment facilities and to ensure we make it the very BEST campsite in South Wiltshire
" We look forward to welcoming you to our very special award winning site - one of Wiltshires & Salisburys undiscovered secrets "
